Ogmore Castle is one of a group of small medieval castles scattered around the Gower Peninsula. Its main appeal for travel photographers is a series of stepping stones across the nearby river, and, like hundreds of photographers before me I drove to Ogmore fully intending to photograph the stepping stones with the castle in the background. What I found instead was even better - a wonderfully pastoral view of horses grazing in the fields and the afternoon sun hitting the castle in the distance.

I bought my first 'serious' camera for a trip to the UK when I was in my 20s. That trip sparked not only a love affair with photography but a love affair with the wonderful landscape and heritage of Britain. Those twin loves have inspired me over the past several decades, as I've explored Britain from Orkney to Cornwall, and most points in between. I find my greatest satisfaction in taking photographs that capture something quintessentially 'British' about my adopted home.
