Description
Sometimes called York Castle, the remains of the circular stone keep atop a high mound near the River Ouse is more accurately called Clifford's Tower. Built by the Normans to control the unruly north, Clifford's Tower is one of York's most popular landmarks. On this occasion I was lucky enough to be staying within walking distance, so when I saw that the sunset promised to be a good one I was able to quickly walk to the castle in time to catch this view. I think it looks a bit like a volcano erupting!
