Description
Tales of bloody clan feuds mayhem cling to the stones of Auchindoun Castle, near Huntly, in Aberdeenshire. Auchindoun was built in the 15th century by the Earl of Mar on a high hill above the River Fidditch, and is set within the encircling earthworks of an Iron Age hillfort. To capture the castle at dawn I had to get up long before sunrise and walk through the predawn gloom about a mile to the castle site, then wait and hope for a good sunrise. Looks like that plan worked!
